Kit Components

A truly complete conversion from automatic, combining the unmodified Tremec TKO 5-speed transmission with all of the correct matched accessory parts that have been carefully selected and tested by Keisler for guaranteed quality and performance. 

Drivetrain component selection and installation instruction and support is critical to get the job done right. Rest assured, buying from Keisler - the leader in manual transmission systems - is the first step in the best driving improvement you will make to your Mustang or Cougar.

 

NOTE: Customer must supply the clutch and brake pedals.  Your Keisler representative can provide sources if needed.


1.  TRANSMISSION - NEW TREMEC TKO-500 (500 HP/500 LB-FT), with the stock Tremec shifter mechanism OR optional Keisler ClassicFit™ Offset Shifter.

  • Provides two possible shift positions, at 16.75" or 19.5" from the rear face of the bellhousing.  Transmission tunnel modification will be required.
  • Optional Keisler ClassicFit Offset Shifter provides the same correct shift lever attachment point as our premium PerfectFit™ series, but in a lower cost "bolt-on" package. Modification of the transmission tunnel will still be required. (Note: If you desire minor or no modification, please see our PerfectFit™ series of transmission system.)
  • Gear Ratios: 3.27 1st, 1.98 2nd, 1.34 3rd, 1.00 4th, .68 5th; 3.00 reverse.
  • Low RPM Cruising - 32% drop in engine RPM in 5th gear (check out our Speed Analyzer).

2.  CROSSMEMBER - Offers an OE quality look; No-flex/No-problem rigid welded box construction design with integrated isolator perch and gloss black epoxy powder paint.


3.  PILOT BEARING
- Needle Roller Bearing for long life and high capacity.

4.  ISOLATOR - Heavy-duty rubber isolator. Polyurethane upgrade available.


5.  BACK-UP LIGHT WIRING HARNESS
- Easy coupling to factory wiring.


6.  NEUTRAL SAFETY START SWITCH
- Can be wired into starter circuit if desired.


7.  SPEEDOMETER CABLE & DRIVEN GEAR
- Mechanical speedometer cable and correct driven gear PLUS integrated 2-wire electronic output included. Optional electronic wiring harness also available (for use with electronic speedometers or EFI).


8.  DRIVESHAFT
- Lightweight high strength steel, automatic welded and computer dynamic balanced with premium solid sealed U-joints, painted satin black, certified and serialized. Built in-house on Hines driveshaft manufacturing cell for the ultimate in quality and craftsmanship!


9.  SLIP YOKE
- Heavy duty Spicer slip yoke.

 

10.  BELLHOUSING - New aluminum or lightweight steel bellhousing.  Keisler carries a variety of bellhousings for small block, big block, FE and modular engines.


11.  FLYWHEEL - Billet steel flywheel, computer balanced.


12.  FLYWHEEL BOLTS
- Grade 8+ specialty flywheel bolts; with locking washers.


13.  CLUTCH KIT
- Modern pedal effort diaphragm Performance Clutch Kit incl: computer balanced pressure plate, premium sprung hub Clutch Disc (with latest technology environment friendly friction material), sealed release bearing, lube pack.


14.  CLUTCH BOLTS
- Grade 8+ specialty clutch bolts.


15.  HYDRAULIC CLUTCH ACTUATOR KIT
(optional) - OEM reliability, high quality exclusive Keisler design; easier pedal effort than mechanical type; installs much easier than mechanical actuator, with no linkage required; includes: 1) quick release master cylinder with ball joint and adjustable push rod, 2) single stainless steel line-set with bleeder fitting, 3) high tech OE grade concentric self-centering double-sealed hydraulic release bearing (rated at 7000 RPM), 4) remote clutch reservoir with fluid baffle, molded cap, 5) DOT approved low pressure line, and 6) installation instructions.


16.  SHIFTER HANDLE
- Authentic looking, tapered round shank chrome handle, designed & manufactured by Keisler, features "TKO" with Keisler logo; aftermarket Hurst handle also available.

1964-1973 Mustang 5-Speed ClassicFit™ Kit - TKO-500-Auto

Overview-Ordering

Keisler's ClassicFit" Kit is a great lower-cost alternative to the PerfectFit" Kit for the car owner who will not be using a center console. The ClassicFit" Kit includes all the same high quality components as the PerfectFit" Kit, but with a non-customized transmission. Requires modification of the factory transmission tunnel and provides an on-center shifter position.

Optional Keisler ClassicFit" Offset Shifter is now available! It provides the same correct shift lever attachment point as our premium PerfectFit" series, but in a lower cost "bolt-on" package. Modification of the 4-speed shifter hole is required for some applications. (Note: If you desire minor or no modification, please see our PerfectFit" series of transmission systems).

FAQ: What is the difference between the Keisler ClassicFit" Offset Shifter and Keisler PerfectFit"?

Keisler PerfectFit" is a version of the Tremec transmission that is heavily customized by Keisler. The aluminum main case is machined to fit the larger Tremec transmission into the factory tunnel with minimal or no modification to the car. The PerfectFit" shifter is Keisler's custom design, and is physically relocated directly below the tunnel hole to give the shortest throws, which are also symmetric left to right and front to back. The Keisler PerfectFit" gives the best fit and shift quality of any custom Tremec solution on the market - Period.

Keisler ClassicFit" Offset Shifter emulates the PerfectFit" shifter handle position, but the Tremec transmission is bone stock otherwise. With the Keisler ClassicFit" Offset Shifter, as with ANY bolt-on offset shifter, compromises are made to the overall result - mainly in the the amount of tunnel modification to fit the transmission case, the amount of the shifter hole modification, and shifter throws being slightly compromised because the pivot joint is on the centerline of the tunnel rather than being directly below the factory 4-speed hole. This is most important when converting a factory 4-speed car, and you don't want to modify the car any more than absolutely needed.

The Keisler ClassicFit" Offset Shifter is designed to be the "best in class" custom offset bolt-on shifter at a price that is at or below comparable bolt-on shifter offerings from other companies.

The TKO 600 RR is married with a 428 CJ that is supercharged with a Pro-charger F1R.
