Lakewood Safety Bellhousings serve two purposes. One is to minimize the destructive effects of a clutch or flywheel in case of an explosion. And two is to protect the driver and passengers in case of such an explosion. Most stock bellhousings are made from cast aluminum or cast iron which is adequate for OEM applications, but mounted behind a high horsepower-high RPM engine, these bellhousings could become deadly shrapnel in the event of a clutch/flywheel explosion.
